At the 2M simplex stop of the Wayne County Repeater Crawl, or Dweeb Crawl according to Fools, Buffoons, & Idiots(FBI) club member N8HTV, last Friday I suddenly lost all measurable TX power on 2M only. 2M receive still worked great, as did both RX and TX on 440. I also later determined that all HF RX and TX was a-ok as well. The same SRFJ7044 final is used for 2M and 440 on this radio, so I knew...

I bought an FT-7900 from Ebay this week for $225 from thefineshop and got an obvious knock off. The sticker on the bottom of the radio says FT-7900 CHN. The first things that tipped me off were the S-meter and scan speed, then the cooling fan started howling from a bad bearing just as I started the video. Stay away from these radios that are all over Ebay right now for $225 or close to that price.

Checking into the M17 weekly net via RF using one DroidStar/MMDVM as an 'HT" and the other as a hotspot connected to M17-M17 C. One MMDVM is a USB LoneStar MMDVM and the other is a GPIO MMDVM_HS_HAT using a USB to UART adapter.

M17 RF simplex between 2 android devices using 2 MMDVM devices. One MMDVM is a GPIO 'hat' using a FT232 USB to serial adapter and the other is a LoneStar USB MMDVM. One of the android devices is a $35 Amazon Fire 7, which works great with this stuff and is one of my primary devel devices. SDR software with M17 decoder was listening in the background.

After the great work by the rest of the M17 team to (nearly) finalize a working M17 OTA protocol and the marvelous addition of the M17 mode to MMDVM by G4KLX, I am able to use DroidStar (all platforms including Android) as 'make believe' M17 transceiver.
